Poverty Lexicon A "lexicon" is the vocabulary of a specific branch of knowledge. Poverty arises from a complex matrix of class, race, gender, age, ability, education and other social and cultural realities. The study of poverty and efforts to eradicate it is multi-disciplinary. Such a multifaceted field is in need of a place to develop a shared vocabulary and analysis of the issue. Poverty Lexicon hopes to be such a place. This site is designed to be a depository of information generated by the people who are working to end the cycle of poverty and dismantle its associated forms of social oppression. However we hope to move beyond mere information to a seedbed of social action and change. Our goal it to hold up those who are making transformation happen now, tell their stories, and lead you in directions where you too can make a difference. |
